Elderly Bears in the Woods of South Carolina

There aren’t many articles written about elderly bears or ‘elderly’ wildlife in general. That’s why I am giving homage to these adorable critters. After viewing so many trail cam videos…I feel a close connection to these older forest dwellers.  

The oldest known living bear was a polar bear that lived for 42 years! Black bears (the species that lives here in South Carolina) have reportedly lived as long as 30 years or more. Read more on the ‘9 Oldest Bears of All Time‘. Click here.

I really admire the gentleness and wise expression of this bear on our trail cam. I feel as if  I found a wise teacher that has taught me to slow down and enjoy life.

25 Cute Bear & Deer Trail Cam Videos

Hey Friends,

Here are 25 cute bear and deer trail cam videos! The weather has been super hot for the past few weeks in South Carolina with daytime highs in the 90s. All the critters have been very active. Early this morning, there was a cub foraging in our backyard. Looks like she found some yummy berries! All the regular bears and deer are returning with newborns. Plus, many of the cubs and fawns that we have seen in past years have become independent and are also making appearances. Luckily, our trail cam captured some of the summer excitement!

Bear Steals Bucket From My Front Porch

Hello Friends,

A black bear stopped by my front porch and took an empty bucket with her. It was 5:12 am and she was extremely hungry. The bear has been looking for food and became desperate and stole the bucket from my front porch. Fortunately, one of our neighbor’s grapevines has ripened and the bear has been enjoying the delicious muscat grapes. (Note: The trail camera time was set wrong on the trail cam it’s 5:12 am not 5:12 pm)

Bears enter hyperphagia and look for food up to 20 hours a day! They have definitely been more active in the back of the woods near our trail camera.

Luckily, Kurt found the bucket the next day and retrieved it. The bucket is now damaged with a large hole from the bears enormous teeth.

Bears Trail Camera, S.C. (A Beary Likely Story)

The bears are very active this summer. The videos below show them enjoying themselves around 10 pm, playing in the rain, and searching for food. The mother bear is training her cubs to be independent. The cubs are exploring by themselves and are on a quest for some adventure! They will begin hibernating in late fall and will remain in their dens until Spring. So, it’s time to party-hardy before the summer is over!
